The Power Of Advertising – M.I.A. Flew Up The Charts

M.I.A.’s album Kala was released almost a year ago and received good recognition, especially amongst college kids, but not from by the mainstream. But ever since “Paper Planes” has been paired with an advertisement for “Pineapple Express” it has garnered much more attention. It seems advertising can affect the popularity of a song much more than I had thought. “All These Things That I’ve Done” by The Killers also began to climb up the charts because it was featured in a commercial during the Olympics. But of course I should have seen this coming when “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay was used for an iTunes commercial and it held its place at the top of iTunes for awhile. So the point of this is that if you want a song to become popular, put it on t.v.
